Job Class: BEHAVIOR CONSULTANT ASSOCIATE

 

Reports to: Lead Behavior Consultant and Director of Student Services

 

 

Functional Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide behavior consultation and support to General McLane school district (teachers, aides, and related staff) for students with autism spectrum disorders or other behavioral concerns. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current Board-Certified Behavior Analyst certificate obtained through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board; or hold a current license for Behavior Specialist in the State of Pennsylvania
• Prior training and experience working with children or adults with autism spectrum disorders, behavior support/modification, and /or behavior analysis

 

Essential/ Core Job Functions:

• Provide consultation to school district (teachers, aides, therapists) for students with autism spectrum disorders or other behavioral concerns
• Support school district programs for students with autism spectrum disorders or behavioral concerns that span the continuum of special education services from students fully included in regular education to students assigned to full time support programs
• Develop recommendations and suggest strategies to classroom staff, such as positive behavior supports, intervention strategies, and educational management programs, in support of students with autism or behavioral needs
• Utilize a coaching and collaborative platform as the preferred method of program implementation
• Support classroom programs in the development of (and assistance with) functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans
• Establish a collaborative/coaching relationship within GMSD.
• Participate in team meetings
• Provide transition assistance and material development (social stories, schedules, etc.)
• Assist with staff development, including facilitation UKERU and Handle with Care as a certified UKERU and HWC trainer
• Be observant to the needs of the children
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Exceptional language and communication skills
• Need to be flexible in varying situations with a diverse clientele
• Ability to think critically and problem solve
• Remain abreast to the laws, methods, and best practices of the career field

 

Work Environment:

GMSD Behavior Consultant will travel within the GMSD providing services in all four schools.   They work closely with students to determine treatment approaches that will best meet the needs of the individual. Due to travel, candidates are required to have a vehicle and valid driver’s license to attend job related duties, meetings, seminars, and trainings.

 

Physical Work Demands:

• Be able to occasionally bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, or stoop to inspect work, handle resources and materials.
• Have the ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs or step stools.
• Have the ability to reach above and below shoulder level to handle materials or use work related resources.
• Have the ability to occasionally sit on the floor to work with materials or equipment.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Possess near and far acuity to monitor people, equipment, other objects, or vehicles at near and far distances.
• Ability to walk about work area to perform tasks and complete usual work activities.
• Have the ability to occasionally sit on the floor to work with people, materials, or equipment
