FLSA:                Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE:      Twelve Months (260 days); Monday-Friday;  8.0 hours/day (excludes lunch)

 

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:

 

The purpose of this position is the general repair, upkeep, installation, and removal of equipment, hardware, fixtures, and small building projects in District facilities and grounds.

 

ESSENTIAL/ CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform corrective and emergency repairs as required.
  • Replace and install equipment as required.
  • Communicate with the Supervisor regarding all aspects of necessary repairs and installations.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • As helping out as a substitute bus driver is a requirement of this position, must possess or be willing to obtain class B commercial drivers license with passenger and school bus endorsements (training provided).
  • Assembles, installs and repairs all physical plants, facilities, equipment, fixtures and district property.
  • Maintain neat and orderly work areas and follow safety guidelines on approved products.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on all physical plants, facilities, equipment and district property, both instructional and non-instructional as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Maintain, in good working order, all maintenance department tools and equipment as well as grounds keeping and snow removal equipment.
  • Maintain the maintenance shop in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Drive to retailers or vendors to pick up parts and supplies.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Ability to use a back hoe & tractors.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with grounds maintenance.
  • Substitute school bus driver.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school graduation or equivalent preferred
  • Trade School or equivalent experience preferred

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must possess and maintain valid state Driver's license.
  • Must maintain updated state required clearances
  • Pesticide Applicator not required but may be requested to obtain
  • Pumping Station Operator not required but may be requested to obtain
  • Water Operator not required but may be requested to obtain

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Skill using standard carpentry hand tools tools such as a tape measure, square, level, hammer and screwdrivers.
  • Skill using power tools such as a table saw, miter saw, hand skill saw, reciprocating saw, hammer drill, impact drill, pneumatic nailer, planer, and router
  • Skill in making precise measurements and cuts.
  • Ability to differentiate between types of materials and when they should be used.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and layout jobs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in elevated spaces.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and maintain routine records
  • Ability to maintain a valid state driver’s license and safely operate district vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in the field of carpentry.
  • Knowledge of building codes and carpentry standards.
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques, and tools of the various building maintenance trades.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and related safety precautions in areas assigned to work.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to read and understand schematic drawings and service manuals.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and related safety precautions in areas assigned to work.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to read and understand material safety data information on chemicals and materials used to maintain facilities.
  • Ability to safely operate mowers, snow blowers, and lawn trimmers.
  • Ability to price and order materials.
  • Ability to complete work related tasks in elevated areas using ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to use computers to communicate using email, reference information, and utilize online work order software (currently using SchoolDude).
  • Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in written communication.  Includes ability to present information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal skills used to work effectively with teams.  Including skill in managing conflict or differences of opinion between subordinates or supervisors.
  • Skill in adapting to fluid work situations or adapting to changes in expectations, procedures, or technology used on the job.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work settings to effectively accomplish tasks.
  • Project management skills used to manage multiple short or long term projects concurrently and ensure tasks are completed on time and according to established standards.
  • Problem solving skills using creativity, reasoning, past experiences, and information available to overcome challenges on the job.

PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:

  • Be able to occasionally bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, or stoop to inspect work, handle resources and materials.
  • Have the ability to ascend or descend ladders and work in elevated positions.
  • Have the ability to reach above and below shoulder level to handle materials or use work related resources.
  • Have the ability to occasionally sit on the floor to work with materials or equipment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Possess near and far acuity to monitor people, equipment, other objects, or vehicles at near and far distances.
  • Ability to walk about work area to perform tasks and complete usual work activities.
  • Ability to balance on narrow walking platforms.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone assisted or unassisted by hearing devices.
  • Occasionally be able to sit or stand for extended time periods to complete work activities.

May be required to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. and frequently lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. such as tools, ladders, and construction materials.
