Position: Head Coach – Cheerleading, Basketball (supplemental position)
Reports to: Director of Athletics and Facilities Use
Location: General McLane High School
Duration: 2024-2025 School Year

Overview: General McLane School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as the Head Coach for Cheerleading. The successful candidate will lead our cheerleading program, inspiring and guiding our athletes to achieve excellence in both their athletic skills and personal development. As a key member of our athletic department, the Head Coach will foster a positive and supportive team environment while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and school spirit.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive cheerleading programs for both sideline and competitive teams, focusing on skill development, technique, and performance.
  • Plan and conduct regular practices, ensuring that all training sessions are safe, effective, and aligned with program goals and objectives.
  • Provide individualized instruction and feedback to athletes, helping them to improve their skills, confidence, and performance levels.
  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of team participation in competitions, including scheduling, travel arrangements, and logistical support.
  • Foster a positive team culture built on respect, integrity, and inclusivity, promoting teamwork, camaraderie, and sportsmanship among athletes.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, athletic department staff, and parent volunteers to support the needs of the cheerleading program and its participants.
  • Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes, promoting academic achievement, personal growth, and character development both on and off the field.
  • Uphold all district policies, procedures, and regulations, ensuring compliance with relevant rules and guidelines governing cheerleading and interscholastic athletics.


Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience in cheerleading at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cheerleading techniques, skills, and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire athletes.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and a commitment to fostering a positive team culture.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with athletes, parents, administrators, and fellow coaches.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
  • Compliance with all necessary background checks and clearances required by the school district.

Additional notes:

  • Depending on the activity, applicants must be willing and able to work on weekends and at various times of the day
  • Compensation: This is a GMEA-contracted position and compensation is based on the 2024-2025 GMEA contract and amount listed.
  • Must complete and submit all six (6) required GMSD clearances and TB test before starting.
