SCHEDULE:      Twelve Months (260 days); Monday-Friday;  8.0 hours/day (excludes lunch)

                                        

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:

 

The purpose of this position is to assist with the overall cleanliness of assigned areas in district facilities.  A person in this position will ensure learning environments are sanitary, safe, and hospitable at all times and assist with minor facilities upkeep, preventative maintenance and minor repairs. This job grouping includes positions covering various shifts and locations within the District that may have more specific tasks or skills as directed by supervisors.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

 

Work of this class is distinguished from that of Custodial Services Technician I by its responsibilities in the following tasks: Refinish and maintain gym floors, completing minor maintenance functions such as replacing fixtures and equipment such as light bulbs, pencil sharpeners, and bulletin boards. In addition, the following knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences are necessary:

 

  • Ability to use industrial cleaning equipment that may include, but is not limited to: floor cleaners, buffers, sanders, and sprayers.
  • Ability to use power hand tools that may include, but is not limited to drills, impact drivers, hand sanders, etc.
  • Ability to safely operate mowers, snow blowers, and lawn trimmers.

 

 

ESSENTIAL/ CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Maintain the overall cleanliness of common areas. This will include, but is not limited to, corridor, lobby, and common restroom areas limited to daily cleaning (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, wet mopping, wall cleaning, and glass cleaning).
  • Assist with overall cleanliness of assigned rooms. This will include, but not be limited to: dusting, sweeping, mopping, board cleaning, emptying wastebaskets and pencil sharpeners, cleaning windows /mirrors, cleaning walls, and filling dispensers.
  • Clean spills in carpeted areas and wet mop spills on hard surfaces.
  • Assist in snow removal of all walkways.
  • Move furniture and other fixtures.
  • Conduct corrective cleaning (wall cleaning, glass cleaning (inside and out), graffiti removal, scrubbing and refinishing floors, shampooing/extracting carpets cleaning of light fixtures).
  • Clean entryway glass
  • Remove all trash and debris and place in assigned areas within district buildings and assigned grounds of District facilities.
  • Maintain neat and orderly supply closets and follow safety guidelines on approved products.
  • Refinish and maintain gym floors.
  • Replace fixtures and equipment such as light bulbs, pencil sharpeners, and bulletin boards.
  • Report more technical maintenance problems to Custodial Services Manager.
  • Maintain, in good working order, all custodial tools and equipment.
  • Set up and clean up for events.

 

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Help maintain building security.
  • Unlock doors and turn on lights in common areas at beginning of the day.
  • Deliver supplies to classrooms.
  • Assist in corrective and preventive maintenance of buildings conducting scheduled inspections.
  • Mow and trim assigned outdoor areas.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

High school graduation or equivalent

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain updated state required clearances

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Preferred knowledge of methods for commercial cleaning, safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and related safety precautions in areas assigned to work.
  • Ability to read and understand material safety data information on chemicals and materials used to clean and maintain facilities.
  • Ability to use computers to communicate using email, reference information, and utilize online work order and facility scheduling software (currently using SchoolDude).
  • Ability to use commercial cleaning equipment that may include, but are not limited to: floor cleaners, buffers, sanders, and sprayers.
  • Ability to use power hand tools that may include, but are not limited to drills, impact drivers, hand sanders, etc.
  • Ability to safely operate mowers, snow blowers, and lawn trimmers.
  • Ability to complete work related tasks in elevated areas using ladders or lift.
  • Ability to safely drive District vehicles to move materials, supplies, or fixtures from District facilities or local vendors.
  • Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in written communication.  Includes ability to present information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal skills used to work effectively with teams.  Including skill in managing conflict or differences of opinion between peers or supervisors.
  • Skill in adapting to fluid work situations or adapting to changes in expectations, procedures, or technology used on the job.

 

PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:

 

  • Be able to occasionally bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, or stoop to inspect work, handle resources and materials.
  • Have the ability to ascend or descend ladders and work in elevated positions.
  • Have the ability to reach above and below shoulder level to handle materials or use work related resources.
  • Have the ability to occasionally sit on the floor to work with materials or equipment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Possess near and far acuity to monitor people, equipment, other objects, or vehicles at near and far distances.
  • Ability to walk about work area to perform tasks and complete usual work activities.

 

May be required to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. and frequently lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. such as buckets, parcels, and trash.
